Basic Layout for Event Materials

This week in my visual design graduate course we read about and practiced 1) recognizing page and screen formats for design 2) designing information with hierarchy, scale, and contract 3) applying type, image, and white space in effective layouts 4) creating related designs across a variety of formats. Our project this week involved picking a big event, researching and analyzing event promotional materials to create a full package of promotional materials for our chosen event. The required materials included a flyer, poster, Facebook banner and event thumbnails, Instagram series of promotional posts, printed event VIP invitation, and t-shirt design.

I picked Creator Clash 2, an annual charity boxing event, as the event for this assignment because it’s a large event that just took place last weekend that I was very invested in. This event involves a bunch of online content creators that have come together to put on a show (boxing matches between different creators) to raise money for different charities like American Heart Association, The Kids Cancer Foundation, The Humane Society, and many more. Last year, this event debuted and made over 1.3 million dollars for charity.

When it comes to a large event like this, having a consistent and memorable line of promotional materials is important. Since this particular event not only involves a bunch of online content creators that are known for their online brands but is being live broadcasted for millions to see, creating strong and functional layouts for a variety of formats is essential for event promotional materials because it helps to ensure consistency and professionalism in the visual presentation of the event. A well-designed layout can conveys key information in a clear and concise manner, making it easier for potential attendees to understand the event’s purpose, date, time, and location. By using consistent branding and design elements across different formats, such as flyers, posters, social media graphics, and invitations, event organizers can establish a recognizable visual identity that helps to build awareness and excitement about the event. Additionally, a basic layout can help to streamline the design process, making it easier and faster to create new promotional materials as needed.

For my package of event promotional materials — Flyer, Poster, Facebook banner and event thumbnails, Instagram series of promotional posts, Event VIP invitation, and T-shirt design — I tried to keep it simple but consistent by using a dark background so that the colors popped (red, blue, and yellow). I used the current logo for the event in my designs but incorporated a new element in it — the boxing gloves. Overall, I used the same design line for all of my promotional materials but made sure that each material had its own functional layout for the medium. Here are some examples of the Instagram series of posts for my package of event materials:
